四国最大級のジップライン! Riding Shikoku’s Longest Zipline!
Last weekend my family and I took a trip to Tobe Zoological Park in Ehime Prefecture. It was our first road trip in a long time, so we were all really excited!
先週末、家族と一緒に愛媛県の戸部動物園に行ってきました。久しぶりの車の旅だったので、みんなすごくわくわくしていました！
Part of the fun of going on road trips is stopping off at rest areas along the way. Rest areas in Japan are great because you can try all different kinds of local specialty products. This wouldn’t be a rest area in Ehime Prefecture if it didn’t have a place where you can drink fresh mandarin orange juice from a tap!
車の旅の魅力は色々ありますが、途中でサービスエリアを訪れるのがその一つですね。日本のサービスエリアが本当に素晴らしいのは、様々な県産品を試してみることができるからです。ここは愛媛県ならではのサービスエリアで、蛇口から新鮮なミカンジュースが飲める場所もありました！
When we arrived at Tobe Zoological Park, we spotted this amazing mural at the front entrance. Max managed to find one of his favorite animals in the mural. (He’s a big praying mantis fan!)
戸部動物園に着いたら、入口の近くにこの素敵な壁画を見かけました。マックスは壁画で一番好きな動物を見つけました。（マックスはカマキリの大ファンです！）
Usually whenever we go to a zoo, I leave all the picture taking to Max. I like to leisurely walk around and look at the animals without worrying about taking the perfect photograph, whereas Max loves running from one place to the next, taking a picture of every animal in the zoo. He took a lot of pictures that day, but I picked out a few of my favorites to show everyone. I think Max has a real eye for composition and color!
動物園に行く時に、私はいつも写真のことをマックスに任せます。私は、いい写真が撮れないかと心配せずに、ゆっくり歩き回って動物を見ることが好きですが、マックスはあっちこっち走って全ての動物の写真を撮ることが好きみたいです。その日、マックスはたくさんの写真を撮りましたが、皆さんに見せるために、その中から私の好きな写真を何枚選びました。マックスは写真の構図や色に関しては、センスがいいと思います！
I especially like the penguin photos! At the penguin exhibit, there was a big glass window where you could watch the penguins swimming in the water from below. They really look like they’re flying!
ペンギンの写真が特に好きです！ペンギン舎には、泳いでいるペンギンを水の下から観察できる大きな窓がありました。まるでペンギンが飛んでいるみたいですね！
One of the main attractions at Tobe Zoological Park is a zipline that stretches from the zoo on one side of a lake, to Ehime Children’s Castle on the opposite side. This is the view from Tobe Zoo to Children’s Castle . . .

Of course we wanted to try it! We put on the harness and helmet, and lined up with the other brave souls to ride the zipline.
もちろん、ジップラインに乗ってみたかったです！ヘルメットをかぶって、ハーネスを装着して、他の勇気のある方々と一緒にジップラインの行列に並びました。
I’m embarrassed to say that I was not brave enough to take pictures while riding the zipline, like these two ladies. As for me, I kept both hands firmly planted on the handle bar the whole time!
恥ずかしいですが、私は上の写真の女性たちと同じように、ジップラインに乗りながら写真を撮るほどの勇気がなかったです。私は、両手でずっとハンドルをしっかりと握りました！
It was a thrilling experience! Max and I were pretty nervous while we were putting on the gear and listening to the safety instructions of the staff. Not knowing what to expect was the scariest part! Once we were actually in the air, however, all that fear disappeared – it truly felt like flying!
スリルに満ちた経験でした！マックスと私はハーネスなどを装着して、スタッフさんの安全な乗り方の説明を聞いていた時に、かなり緊張していました。一番怖かったのは、この先に何が起こるかが予見できないことでした！しかし、実際にジップラインに乗っていた時には、その恐怖が完全に消えました。本当に空を飛んでいるように感じました！
